Wow, people can be real asses sometime. It's not very often I have someone try to steal something from me, at least something I want to keep. But this afternoon someome tried to steal my laptop computer!!
The area I spend most of my time in is a pretty safe area, I've done the exact same thing ever since school started and never had any problems....until today. I was using my computer and finished, one of my friends asked could he check his e-mail and I said sure. I went over to play Halo 2 with some other friends when he came over, keeping an eye over on the computer. Someone came over and set their bag down on top of my computer only to scoop it up into his bag and walk out of the building. I looked over and noticed him walking out of the building in a hurry. I ran after him and asked him if he saw a computer, he said he didn't have it and that someone else was sitting there. I almost believed him and walked back to the group who came running after me to help. One of my friends said that she knew for a fact that he had it in his bag.
The director of the Student Center tried to run after him calling out, "Hey!", but he kept up walking. I saw that and sprinted after him while the lady in charge yelled, "Be nice to him!" Heh, yeah, riiiight. I came up beside him and said "Hey bud, let me see your bag real quick, just to make sure there's no suspision." He sighed and pulled it out of his bag, "Yeah, I got it. Someone told me to play a prank on you and take it."
I looked at him and could just blink at him while I cuddled my computer for a few minutes, some of the other people coming up and telling him that wasn't a prank while I went back to get the rest of my stuff, locking it back up in the case. I didn't even KNOW the guy, why the hell would he want to pull a prank on me!?
The rest of the day passed without incident, but that one thing was enough to rattle me for the rest of the day, even now! I was glad just to have it back, but I had to file a report with campus security, apparantly someone who followed to help me knew who he was and gave his name to campus security, who then gathered the rest of his information from that, then took my name and information along with my story. The security guy wasn't sure what was going to happen to him, maybe academic prohbation or expulsion, but I was just glad to get my computer back.

Worse that I've had stolen (Still miffed about my stolen panda drawing, but in monetary value): my dental retainer (like braces almost, but with a plastic piece that goes over the roof/floor of your mouth). Stupid kid got a running start and swiped it off my lunch table, making me knock over my chair and chase him all over the lunchroom, before I thought of something and walked back to my table grinning! It worked: Robert opened the case to see what I REALLY wanted back, was probably overwhelmed by the fact I was young and stupid and didn't know I had to CLEAN the appliance itself after each use, and handed the gross thing back, in a quavering voice: "Here, take your dentures back!" (That was a bad idea, the plastic isn't all that thick, you can EASILY step on these and break them in lots of pieces!)
I'd get the fingerprint lock you mentioned and don't let others use it unless you stay with the computer. He might have been honestly trying to steal it and then caught, blamed it on a prank. I let people use my cell phone, but I stand with them as they use it, far enough to give them some privacy, but not where I can't run after them if they try to take off with it, and lock my computer workstation if I was using a school PC, or just log off. If someone took off my with my Lyra, it's only $88 (enough that I never unclip it from my beltloop, I'll take off the headphone part though if I need to!), but not $600+! Should not be too hard to find since there are only like 10 thousand iPod Minis on my campus! I swear I've only seen six people with anything else!
*Sets his Laptop in it's case and takes its place in his arms!* Love you!
